How to Compare Pokémon Teams Effectively
Building one great Pokémon team is hard enough — but knowing which of your saved teams is actually stronger requires direct comparison. Our team comparison tool lets you load two teams side-by-side and instantly see which has better type coverage, fewer critical weaknesses, and a higher overall team score.
What the Comparison Shows
When you load two teams into the compare tool, you get an instant breakdown across three key dimensions:
- Type Coverage — How many of the 18 types each team can hit super-effectively. A team covering 16/18 types offensively is significantly stronger than one covering 12/18.
- Shared Weaknesses — The number of types where 3+ team members share a vulnerability. Fewer shared weaknesses means your team is harder to sweep with a single counter.
- Team Score — An overall 0–100 rating combining defensive balance, offensive coverage, and weakness distribution. Higher scores mean better-rounded compositions.
When to Compare Teams
Team comparison is valuable in several scenarios:
- Choosing between two drafts — Built two variants of a team and unsure which to take to ladder? Compare them to see which has fewer structural weaknesses.
- Before and after changes — Swapped out a team member? Compare your old team against the new version to confirm the change actually improved coverage.

How do I compare two Pokémon teams?
Load a saved team into each side using the dropdown, or search and add Pokémon manually. The comparison updates instantly as you modify either team — no need to click a compare button.
What does the team score measure?
The team score (0–100) combines three factors: how well your team resists all 18 attacking types, how many types your STAB moves hit super-effectively, and how evenly distributed your weaknesses are. A score above 75 indicates strong overall balance.
Can I edit teams while comparing?
Yes. Add or remove Pokémon from either team directly in the comparison view. Changes autosave to your stored teams, so when you return to the main builder your modifications are preserved.
Does this work with Pokémon Showdown teams?
Yes. Build or import your Showdown teams on the main team builder page, then load them here for comparison. The type analysis works identically for competitive and casual teams.
How do I know which Pokémon team is better?
